Fishing the Summertime Heat
Is the summer heat putting a damper on your fishing success? Here is a quick tip: Find deeper water vegetation! As the daytime sun looms over head during the hottest parts of the year, fish will often hunker down towards the bottom of thick vegetation (if present). Here, the plant life provides them with ample oxygen. At the same time, overhead vegetation, such as lily pads, will shade the water, helping to keep the lower part of the water column a few degrees cooler.
To fish this properly, a heavy duty flipping/pitching setup equipped with braided line is crucial. Various soft plastics such as beavers, crayfish, lizards and worms are all effective. Additionally, an NCB "Stick It" Hybrid-Skirt soft plastic lure attachment (pictured) can help give your lure extra flare, helping to attract the eye of bass lurking within the thick vegetation.
